“When I started Doors Open Day, the concept was really simple. We basically said to people, ‘can you open your door, can you make people feel welcome, can you make people feel there are no barriers, there’s no otherness, there’s no exclusivity.’ It grew and grew and you found you had almost a club of ‘building baggers’ as we called them, that would come every year, and get seven one year, and then look for those buildings have them ticked off, looked for the next.”
